Book 2: Post 1

For our second book of the semester, I chose "What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat" by Aubrey Gordon.

People have so many misconceptions when they think about obesity. There are so many factors that can influence a person's weight, and we often fail to examine the correlation between socioeconomics and health.

Being overweight is so stigmatized and looked down upon, and it's evident in the way that our society treats people who are heavier. From what I understand about the book, Gordon highlights these inequities and the way that a person's physical appearance dictates their success in our culture.

My copy of the book is arriving at the end of this week, but I'm excited to begin reading and to learn more about this issue. I hope that I'll finish the book with a better understanding of what I, personally, can do to  promote justice and encourage change.
